5 Ways To Spice Up Your Morning Routine

Let’s face it, not all our morning routines are a scene out of Miami Vice, filled with car chases and gun fights. For most of us, our morning routine is just that; a routine.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t attempt to spice it up from time to time.

There are five work days in the week, and every one of them should bring their own pleasures. Here are a few tips so you can bust out of that funk and get yourself ready to crush it at work.

Treat Yourself With A Vintage Straight Razor

I’m a big believer in splurging for things we really use often. Take shaving for example, which we do daily.

Get yourself a nice razor that gets the job done, and if you’re feeling brave, try a vintage straight razor. It’s both old school, and sexy at the same time.

Change Your Commute; Route, Time, and Mode

In some ways your commute really defines your morning routine, but it doesn’t have to always be the same drab, honking horns, and pissed off drivers. There are plenty of ways to spice it up.

Taking a different route to work will make the commute feel new. Some days, for example, I would drive my girlfriend to the metro. If you have a bit of extra time, take the long way, and clear your mind with a longer drive.

If there’s only one clear way to go, then try heading in at a different time. Rather than rush into the office, head in 10 minutes earlier and enjoy a bit of relaxation at your desk.

Lastly, depending on your overall distance, why not try changing your mode of transportation? Ditch the car for a bike and enjoy the sounds of nature and increased physical activity in the morning.

Adjust What You Listen To; Books, Podcasts, Silence

After a few weeks I started to notice that morning DJs talk about the same topics over and over again. Usually sports and relationships. While I’m all for these topics, it gets old – fast.

Books on tape are a nice change to both expand your mind and add variety to your morning. You can easily get these at the library. I love the Sherlock Holmes series.

If you want something a bit fresher, listen to a podcast. There are plenty of great podcasts on the web nowadays covering a wide range of topics. Personally, I’m a big fan of John Dumas’ daily podcasts on Entrepreneur On Fire.

Accessorize

Yes, men can accessorize too. We don’t wear much but we do wear watches. Buy yourself a few different watches for various days of the week. They don’t all have to be Rolexes, just something to diversify. A fresh new look is a fresh new attitude.

Work Out

If you have time head to the gym in the morning. Most gyms open quite early in the morning to accommodate early risers. Working out in the morning will give you an added boost of energy throughout the day. At a minimum, you can start your mornings with push ups, an ab workout, or kettle bars.

Vary Your Brew

Lastly, change your morning brew. If you’re a coffee drinker, try Herbal Tea. If you normally buy your cup of coffee, try brewing it yourself for added satisfaction. You can adjust the coffee flavor as well!
